Updated "Lost Lingo" to Debut at Half Price Books in Bloomingdale

You are invited! Come visit us at the Half Price Books store in Bloomingdale, Illinois on Saturday, May 3, to hear our updated version of "Lost Lingo," the presentation we gave at the International Agatha Christie Festival last September.

"Lost Lingo" is based on my book, Agatha Annotated, and on the website database my husband, Don, built. Festival folk are hardcore Agatha Christie fans, so we pitched our initial presentation to that very specific audience. But there are lots of Christie fans whose focus is, shall we say, less extreme. So we retooled "Lost Lingo" for a more general readership.

Don has an extensive background in theatre and radio, so he'll be reading the quotes from Christie's books while I provide the explanatory bits. We're practicing the back-and-forth and hope it will be an entertaining way to learn a bit more about the 1920s and Agatha Christie's novels.

As I mentioned in my last blog post, we were introduced to Vito at Half Price Books Bloomingdale by Don Fulmer, the organizer of the Lake Park Film Appreciation Society where we spoke in March. Networking is so important and we are grateful to Don for the introduction!

We would love to have you stop by, hear our revamped "Lost Lingo," and browse Half Price's books! The date again is Saturday, May 3, from 1:30p until 3:00p. Books make a fabulous Mother's Day gift, by the way!

What is Agatha Annotated?

This website is the home of the Agatha Christie database as annotated by Kate Gingold, hence the name Agatha Annotated.

It's a rich glossary of

  • nearly 1900 terms
  • over 200 illustrations
  • 347 French phrases

Kate found them while reading Agatha Christie novels, and wrote them, along with definitions curated from years of research, into this database.

Currently the first 11 Christie books, those she wrote in the 1920s, are annotated here.

Anybody can be a member and gain access to this rich glossary. Visit the Community page to learn the details.

We took the 1920s terms and published a book, Agatha Annotated: Investigating the Books of the 1920s, now available on Amazon in Paperback or Kindle format.

Kate will be adding to the database and members get the new terms and definitions first before the second volume is printed, plus members can comment and ask questions about the terms and Kate and other members can reply.

We hope you enjoy. Click around the pages to learn more.
