When was the last time you saw the 1982 film Evil Under the Sun? If you are in the Elgin, Illinois area, here's your chance! Come watch the film and take part in a post-film discussion in the pub-like atmosphere of Club 120.
This film presentation is the first event in the "Living Library" series hosted by Club 120 in Elgin. This year, the Living Library is browsing the "Mystery" section. "It's a Mystery!" has four events scheduled from June through September, starting with Evil Under the Sun. Club 120 is located in the lower level of the Atrium at Oak Crest, 204 State Street in Elgin. See their website to reserve your place.
Evil Under the Sun features Peter Ustinov as Poirot, surrounded by a bevvy of well-known actors including Maggie Smith, Diana Rigg, Roddy McDowall, Sylvia Miles, and James Mason. The film is set in the 1930s, complete with all the glamorous clothing of the period. While the story stays a bit from the novel, in my opinoin the catty dialogue between Smith and Rigg makes up for it.
After the movie, I'll be talking about how Christie described the detective, Hercule Poirot, in her novels and how Poirot has been portrayed on stage, film, and television. We'll talk a little about the film compared to the book as well. I hope you'll join us!
